In 2003, iFire introduced Color By Blue™, a process that further simplifies the already easy fabrication method for TDEL.
TDEL technology uses electricity to excite an inorganic phosphor that emits light. Traditionally, three electrically active phosphors are used to generate red, green and blue light. Using the physics of photoluminescence, Color By Blue produces a high luminance inorganic blue phosphor in combination with special color conversion materials to absorb the blue light and re-emit red or green light to generate the other colors. This fluorescence is possible because the photons in blue light have higher energy levels, and so they can generate red or green light. With optimum color-conversion materials, the conversion factors and the color spectrum of the display have the potential to exceed the requirements of many applications.
